Service Description

Balboa is a fast-paced, partnered Swing dance that originated in Southern California in the 1920s and 1930s. Born in overcrowded ballrooms where space was tight and big movements were restricted, Balboa is defined by its compact footwork and close embrace. We’re so excited to introduce our first 4-week Balboa Term at Corps de Burlesque! Erik and Susan have been dancing since 2002 and led the swing scene in Athens, GA for many years and organized Bal Bootcamp and Classic City Swing. They have been teaching swing dance since 2004 and enjoy applying their pedagogical expertise to enhance their students’ learning and experience. They learned Balboa from Bobby White and Kate Hedin in the early 2000s and love the combination of technicality and creativity inherent in the style! No partners or previous experience necessary. Comfy shoes and clothes recommended.
