How does the timetable work?
Our timetable runs alongside school terms.
Courses are 8 weeks - we have a graduation evening in week 8 or 9
In week 10 we have a selection of workshops and a fundraiser
Subscription classes run continuously (subject to availability during school holidays) so you can start your subscription at any time.
How many people are in a class?
We require a minimum of 4 people in a course to go ahead.
We like to keep our classes on the smaller, more intimate side with a maximum of 8-10 people.
Pole courses have a maximum of 8 people.
Do I have to get naked?!
Whilst a large part of burlesque involves striptease, it is up to the individual to decide what is comfortable and ok for them. Our syllabus has many variations so you can still enjoy the class and the teachings without revealing anything you don’t want to reveal.
Is burlesque just for women?
All folks are welcome in our classes.
Our current student roll includes a broad spectrum of guys, gals and non-binary pals.
We welcome anyone who is respectful of themselves, the space and people around them, is willing to learn and have a good time.
Do I have to have a certain body shape/type?
Absolutely not, any body is a good body. Burlesque and Pole accepts all shapes, sizes and backgrounds.
I want to try burlesque but I don't want people knowing.
We understand.
In some instances people knowing you do burlesque may not be the greatest idea. The people featured in our social media posts have chosen to be shown there and it is not mandatory to perform in our public shows. Everyone has the autonomy to decide what is best for them and their circumstances. No pressure, it can be our little secret.
What are the
pre-requisites for attending class?
All students must be aged 18 years and over.
Otherwise, there are no pre-requisites for taking class. No dance experience is necessary. However, everyone must complete the Emerald Garter before being able to progress to any other syllabus garter.
What do I wear?
As long as you feel comfortable...whatever you want!!
For burlesque, we recommend something with a bit of stretch so you can move easily. Heels are recommended but gym shoes or bare feet are ok too.
For swing, flat comfy shoes or a low heel.
For Pole, shorts and singlet/tshirt is best as you need your arms and legs exposed for grip. Bring layers in the winter. Shoes are not necessary for general pole classes, heels are recommended for Classique and Floorwork.
Pole Dance - What do the class levels mean?
Beginner - Start at the beginning
Level 1 - Has touched a pole before, basic spins, climbs, not quite ready to invert
Level 2 - Can invert confidently, learning to shoulder mount
Level 3 - Can invert and shoulder mount confidently, learning to handspring/ayesha
Level 4 - Can invert, shoulder mount and handspring/ayesha confidently, learning more advanced fun stuff
Do I have to go to the gym before I start Pole?
Nope! There's no such thing as too big, too heavy, too weak, too clumsy - your body is great!
Anyone can start pole - you build strength, endurance and flexibility during class little by little.
I can't commit to a full 8 week course, is there anything else I can do?
Irregular schedules are a pain but that's life. Our courses are designed to be progressive so it's important to be able to attend each class in order.
In 2023 we have launched a selection of open classes on a subscription model alongside our courses to give people more freedom to attend.
What is the subscription about?
In 2023 we have added some open level classes to our timetable, (they're marked with a *) this means you could choose a different class each week and not feel like you've missed any progress. Our courses run in line with school terms but subscription classes continue through the holidays (subject to availability) so you can join any time.
The level of subscription you purchase will determine how many classes per week you can attend, the higher the tier, the cheaper it is per class.
The subscriptions are for a period of 12 weeks, the first time you purchase a subscription you get a 1 week free trial. At the end of 12 weeks you can purchase another plan or request to have your subscription extended.
How do I use the subscription?
All subscriptions have access to all of the open classes
(Cabaret Cardio, Pole Conditioning, Barre Babes, Ballet, Yoga, Solo Jazz, Splits & Backbends, Open Pole Practice)
You must book your place in advance - either via the booking page on this site or via the Wix Fit app.
Bookings and cancellations can be made until 3 hours before class. Failure to cancel and no shows will forfeit the session.
Your class allocation resets at the beginning of each billing cycle.
I can't commit to a subscription either, what can I do?
You sure can!
The subscription classes are available to purchase on a casual basis too.
